Get to Know Me Trauma & Grief Specialist | New York State | In-network Aetna
Some of the most profound grief doesn't come from death. It comes from realizing the parent you needed never quite showed up — and quietly mourning the version of yourself that had to disappear to survive them.
Whether you grew up navigating a household that required you to shrink, perform, or become someone else entirely — or you're coming out later in life and grieving the years you didn't get to live as yourself — this is the work I do. The losses that don't have funerals. The grief that lives in the body long after the mind has tried to make peace with it.
What brings people to work with me
In a world that feels increasingly polarized, unsafe, and exhausting — especially for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals — the wounds of not being seen, protected, or celebrated by the people who were supposed to love you first run deep. That's minority stress. That's attachment trauma. And it shows up in relationships, in how you respond to conflict, in the way your body shuts down when you feel threatened by the people closest to you.
I also work with people navigating pet loss and companion animal grief — including veterinary professionals carrying the weight of compassion fatigue and moral injury. Before becoming a therapist I spent years as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. I understand that kind of loss from the inside.
My commitment to affirming care
I am an individual actively doing the work in my personal life and in how I show up for every client. I provide respectful, affirming, and culturally informed care for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals, couples, and anyone navigating identity, trauma, anxiety, and life transitions across New York State. Who you are isn't just welcomed here — it's central to everything we do together.
My approach
I work with humor, sharp wit, and genuine curiosity — because healing doesn't have to be relentless. Clinically I draw from EMDR, CBT and somatic work, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and psychodynamic therapy. Together we'll build something tailored to you — not a protocol, a relationship.
I have experience supporting clients with minority stress and trauma · attachment and social trauma · late identity development and coming out grief · the grief of the ideal parent versus the real one · pet loss and companion animal bereavement · compassion fatigue in veterinary and caregiving professions · trauma and PTSD · anxiety and depression · life transitions.
Credentials and experience
I earned my Master of Social Work from Nazareth University and am fully licensed as an LMSW in New York State, working under the clinical supervision of Matthew Danis, LCSW, an advanced EMDR clinician. My clinical experience includes private practice and community-based settings including The Center for Youth and Sodus Central School District.
I offer individual, couples, and group therapy.
